Join us online or on-site at one of our Commonwealth University campuses in the northeastern region of PA.  Our mission is to get you trained for the 21st-centry job market.  Best of all, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to acquire professional-level positions for several in-demand occupations in the field.  Compete better the minute you complete your training.

Career training topics include Health Related, Paralegal, Real Estate, CDL, Public Safety, and Information Technology.  These training opportunities lead to industry recognized certifications required for the jobs of today.  CU Workforce Development classes are offered at different campuses via different instructional modalities (in-person, online and hybrid). If you don’t see what you’re looking for, let us know.  We’ll see what we can do!

COMING FALL 2023

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Emergency Medical Technicians provide out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical services (EMS) system. EMTs have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Emergency Medical Technicians are a critical link between the scene of an emergency and the health care system. [From the: National EMS Scope of Practice Model]

Phlebotomy Technician

Phlebotomy Technician
This program prepares learners to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Learners will become familiar with all aspects of blood collection and will review the skills needed to perform venipunctures safely. Topics in this course include medical terminology, related anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, and procedures for collection of other types of specimens within the scope of practice of the phlebotomist.

Third-Party Partnerships
Commonwealth University, in partnership with third-party vendors, offers a variety of certificate programs designed to provide the skills necessary to acquire professional level positions and/or industry-recognized certifications, for many in-demand occupations. 

Our programs are designed by a team of professionals from each respective field, providing you with effective face-to-face and web-based learning programs. Instructors/course mentors are actively involved in your learning experience, responding to any questions or concerns, as well as encouraging and motivating you to succeed. Our training options include:

  • CE Shop - Real Estate education to begin or advance your career in real estate
  • CLS by BARBRI - Legal training courses to begin or advance your legal career
  • Consolidated Curriculum International - Face-to-Face (F2F) healthcare career training
  • ED2GO Career Training programs - Online career training programs that lead to industry recognized credential
  • ED2GO Fundamental Courses - Online personal and professional skills courses
  • MPower Education - Massage Therapy Certificate program
  • Public Safety Institute - Regional training center providing education for criminal justice practitioners, first responders, public safety professionals and the public.
  • Sage Truck Driving School - CDL training and testing center

Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available through the SallieMae Smart Option Student Loan program.  Visit the SallieMae website and search for Commonwealth University of PA Workforce Development. Our School ID is 003315-97.

We do not offer payment plans directly through Commonwealth University.  However, some of our vendors offer payment plans that you might be able to utilize.  

Please contact your local PA CareerLink to inquire about WIOA, TAA or OVR funding availability for workforce development training programs.

Refund Policy
Tuition and fees are non-refundable after the class start date.

Act 48
Commonwealth University is an approved provider for Act 48 hours.  We are currently offering online courses through our third-party collaborations. Pre-approved Act 48 courses can be found under the Ed2Go category of Teacher Professional Development.

In order to receive Act 48 hours for any a non-credit course or to check if your course qualifies for Act 48, please contact tallen@commonwealthu.edu before registering.
