Class of 2022

Freshman Commons

We want your First Year Experience at The Haven to be great...

LHU is committed to helping students transition from high school to college, so we have created a comprehensive first year plan that will help you make this move.  We call this plan the Freshman Commons, because it is something that all freshmen participate in.

The Freshman Commons will help you meet a diverse group of learners and journey with them to develop academic skills and a social network that will support your success.

The Freshman Commons at LHU begins with...

ORIENTATION

Orientation introduces you to life at LHU, and to other new students. You’ll meet faculty, staff, and administrators from across campus who want to help you to make the most of your time at The Haven.

MOVE-IN WEEKEND AND WELCOME WEEK

Move-in Weekend and welcome week is an exciting time on campus.  The Office of Student Involvement schedules a lot of different events and activities, so there is always something to do.  We try to provide you with plenty of opportunities to get out and about to meet new friends with similar interests.

FIRST YEAR SEMINARS

First-Year Seminar is a one-credit course where you’ll learn essential skills for academic success. It’s also a great way to get to know other first-year students.

First Year Learning Communities

Learning Communities at LHU consist of students with similar academic interests. Students in learning communities report that they make friends quickly and develop close connections with their professors.

Early Warning System

LHU has an Early Warning system in place for faculty and staff to "alert" our student success team that a student may be in need of assistance. Alerts include poor class attendance, failing grades, lack of involvement with social activities, health issues, or financial issues.  Essentially, any concern that faculty or staff feel is preventing the student from being successful and connected to LHU can be submitted.  Our dedicated student success team will reach out to the student and provide the guidance and reassurance needed to help the student get back on track.

Student Success Center

The Student Success Center is at the heart of a coordinated, campus-wide commitment to support all students, whether first-semester newcomers or graduating seniors, as they pursue a Lock Haven University degree.

The Success Center seeks to assist students in four major areas: academic success, social adjustment, financial literacy, and career exploration.
