The Act 101 Program
The Act 101 Program

Lock Haven University’s Act 101 Program, partially funded by the Pennsylvania Act 101/Higher Education Equal Opportunity Program state grant, pursues a mission to serve students whose educational and economic backgrounds impair their initial ability to successfully pursue higher education.
The faculty and staff from the Act 101 Program offer an intensive new student orientation program, as part of the Freshman Commons, and provide ongoing professional and peer counseling, study skills instruction, and tutorial services. Tutoring is provided at no charge and is available to all students in most basic subject areas.
Act 101 delivers various workshops (e.g., in stress management, time management, financial literacy, and career planning) to aid students’ success. Through intentional programs and informational sessions, LHU encourages students to actively engage in learning opportunities and receive adequate support under the umbrella of services coordinated through LHU’s Student Success Center. Located in Ulmer Hall, the Student Success Center houses such programs as Act 101, the Academic Success Program, TRIO SSS, the Academic Improvement Plan, and Tutorial Services. Offices like Counseling Services; Disability Services; the Student Outreach and Assistance Resources; Financial Aid; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and the Center for Career and Professional Development are also housed in Ulmer Hall, affording students close proximity to key support services.
