What is the difference between graduation and commencement? Some students confuse graduation with the University's Commencement ceremony, and it is an easy mistake to make. The Commencement ceremony is a voluntary celebratory event to which all graduates are invited but are not required to attend. Lock Haven offers graduation three times each year (May, August, December) and offers a Commencement ceremony each May.
