What You'll Study
Through a combination of classroom study and experiential learning you will gain an understanding of crime and deviance and criminal justice organizational systems while acquiring the ability to analyze and critique emerging research and current trends. Topics covered include:

- Forensic Criminology
Part of the B.S. degree, this concentration is specifically designed to prepare you for competitive employment in a variety of settings related to conservation, management, and protection of our natural resources, species, and habitats. Topics covered include:
- Conservation Law Enforcement
- Environmental Justice
- Ethics
The A.A. in criminal justice is specifically designed to prepare you for entry level positions which do not require a four-year degree. You will take a limited number of discipline-specific courses and two courses of your choice. All coursework completed toward the A.A. is transferrable to the B.S. in criminal justice.

- Internships: Lock Haven University allows students to earn up to 15 internship credits and have
them count toward their degree at LHU. Internships typically take place during the
summer session or in the final semester of your senior year. Examples of recent internship
placements include:

- Wal-Mart Loss Prevention Division
- North Carolina Department of Corrections

- Experiential Learning: At LHU you’ll have the chance to apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to
real-world situations through experiential learning. By developing mentoring relationships
with faculty you’ll have the chance to take part in research, grant writing, and professional
conferences. In addition, LHU offers two discipline-specific clubs.
- The LHU Criminal Justice Club: This student-run organization is composed of students
at all points of study. The club engages in a variety of activities each semester
including:
- Sponsoring guest speakers on campus
- Field Trips to:
- FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia
- Police Museum in New York City
- Washington, D.C.
- Alpha Phi Sigma—LHU’s Chapter of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society: In fall 2007, Lock Haven University established a local chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Our local chapter is known as Iota Sigma. Membership in this honor society is prestigious and quite an accomplishment. Eligibility requires a GPA of 3.2 in the major. Within the discipline, membership is in the top 35% of their class academic standing.
