Dr. Michael Fiorentino has served higher education for more than 37 years. He arrived in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, to begin his tenure as President of Lock Haven University on July 1, 2011.
Dr. Fiorentino was named Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs at Fitchburg State University in 2009, where his duties included serving as the university’s chief operating officer and coordinator of all of its administrative functions. Prior to taking that post, he served five years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the university, being responsible for the execution of educational policy and supervision of instructional staff and budgets.
Dr. Fiorentino was previously chair and professor in the Department of Special Education and chair of the M.Ed. Program in Educational Leadership at Fitchburg State University. Prior to those leadership roles at Fitchburg State University, Dr. Fiorentino served as Associate Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President and as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Framingham State University.
Before assuming his duties at Framingham State University, Michael was an assistant professor of special education at Fitchburg State University, specializing in emotional disturbance and educational research. He was later named Associate Dean and Principal of the McKay Campus School/Teacher Education Center at the university. He also served as a special education teacher in the Needham Public School system.
Dr. Fiorentino has served as a consultant for the U.S. Department of State; the Office of Overseas Schools; the University of Georgia; the Association for the Advancement of International Education; the Association of American Schools in Central America, Columbia, the Caribbean and Mexico; and Sopris West Educational Services.
Dr. Fiorentino has extensive experience in international education and has worked with International American schools in Central and South America, Mexico, Caribbean, Europe, and the Mid-East. Most recently he has completed partnership agreements with Tianjin Medical University in Tianjin, China, and the University of Verona in Verona, Italy.
Dr. Fiorentino serves on the Clinton County Community Foundation Board, the Clinton County United Way, and Lock Haven Kiwanis. He also participates in numerous national professional organizations, including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), Pennsylvania Campus Compact, Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Dr. Fiorentino earned his Ed.D. in Educational Administration from UMass Amherst in 1978. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College and M.Ed. from Boston University.
